In 1901, Max Grabowsky established a company called "Rapid Motor Vehicle Company", which developed the first commercial trucks. These trucks use a 1-cylinder engine. In 1909, the company was bought by General Motors to form a division of General Motors trucks. GM bought the company Reliance Motor Company in the same year. GMC reported sales of 372 units in 1912. During World War II, producing more than 600,000 GMC trucks are used for purposes of United States Military. In 2002, the GMC launched a book entitled: "GMC, The First 100 Years", which tells the complete history of the company.
